I know that many Assassin’s Creed players can’t stand the modern-day sections of the game – it’s been a common complaint since the very first game, but I for one love them. It’s good to have a bit more of a grounded setting to give you a reason to be running around ancient lands and stabbing ancient people with ancient swords.
It’ll come as an annoyance, then, that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has modern-day narrative sections that are not optional.
Speaking on Reddit as part of an Ask Me Anything, Ubisoft’s Jonathon Dumont answered questions put forward by fans of the series. A couple of questions related to the game’s modern-day story line.
“Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a continuation of the modern-day story from Layla, so players will pick-up right after Assassin’s Creed Origins,” said Dumont. “Modern day is not optional. Everyone will experience modern-day in their playthroughs and because of the narrative choices players can make in the game, there will be opportunities to experience more present day for players who want to.”
So there you have it. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will anchor its game with some modern-day sections. I for one could not be happier. Well, that’s a lie. If they could actually do something interesting with the modern-day stuff for a change then I’d be a tiny bit happier.
