Assassin’s Creed was going through the motions for a while. Let’s not kid ourselves and say everything was great, because it wasn’t. The Ezio trilogy dragged on for too long, Assassin’s Creed III was criminally underappreciated, Black Flag just made everyone want a Ubisoft pirate game, and ever since then it’s been more of the same.
It’s great to hear, then, that the series has somewhat recovered from the days of Arno falling through the map into the abyss. According to Ubisoft chief Yves Guillemot, Assassin’s Creed Origins has so far sold more than double that of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, leading Guillemot to declare that Assassin’s Creed is “officially back”. Impressive stuff indeed.
But what does it mean the game series? We can’t know for sure, but we’d guess that Ubisoft will look at what’s worked well in this years games and continue to replicate its success. Oh, wait, didn’t that happen already? Assassin’s Creed soft reboot #2 coming in 2022…
