This isn’t going to go down well at all, is it? It has been confirmed via GameStop that Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Origins will have microtransactions and that the game will be bringing back those damned Helix Credits from Assassin’s Creed Unity.
We kind of guessed it was coming when Ubisoft spoke about loot boxes and what not, but as the publisher dodged around the question as to whether players will be able to spend real money on in-game items, we couldn’t be 100% sure. Now we are, thanks to GameStop listing various Helix Credits packages on its website.
While GameStop may be willing to sell you Helix Credits, you’ll almost certainly be able to purchase them in-game if you so wish. The Helix Credits got a lot of flak with the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, so much so that they were dropped from the follow-up game, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
It’s a shame that we’re seeing more and more single-player games turn to microtransactions in order to generate more profit for the publishers, but let’s hope that they aren’t that intrusive before we throw the game under the bus.
