Code Vein was recently announced by Bandai Namco after a Famitsu article originally leaked details of the game. Coming from the team behind the God Eater series, this RPG takes us to a dark, post-apocalyptic world and casts players as Revenants, people who have gained great powers to survive this harsh new world at the cost of an insatiable blood lust. The new trailer, which we’ve handily reproduced for you above, shows off the anime aesthetic and some rather slick looking visuals.
Story-wise, the new trailer confirms the details that were previously released, humanity has been all but wiped out by the ‘Thorns of Judgement’ and the survivors have become something not quite human at all. In the trailer, we see the thorns are literal black spikes that have pierced a landscape littered with the remnants of human society. We also get a little more information on ‘the lost’ – unfortunate Revenants who have succumbed to their blood lust, lost their minds, and are doomed to wander the land eating each other.
A brief glimpse of the game’s action RPG combat style is also shown. It’s not a lot to go on but there’s some melee action, a look at what seems to be one the companion NPCs described in previous information, and a tease of the main character’s blood draining abilities. Probably the most significant thing we can take away from the trailer is just how good the character and enemy models look.
Code Vein is set for release in 2018. Platforms have not yet been officially announced, though the game has been described as ‘coming to console.’
