After watching the Destiny 2 reveal and the various gameplay clips that Bungie has thrown our way, even we couldn’t tell you what the frame-rate of the game was. You really need to be the one in control of the game to really get a good feel for the frame rate, you know? We weren’t alone in that either. Many eager gamers who took the discussion online couldn’t agree on whether what Bungie showed us was 30fps or the fabled 60. We now know, thanks to IGN getting the studio to say it straight.
During a chat with the studio, IGN asked outright if the game will be 30 or 60fps on consoles. The response? This: The PS4 Pro is super powerful, but it couldn’t run our game at 60. Our game is this rich physics simulation where we have collision of players, networking, etc, and like, it wouldn’t run.”
So there you have it. You’ll be playing Destiny 2 at 30fps on PS4 and PS4 Pro. The PC release will have more options for players, though that’s kind of expected, but it does rule out cross-play with PS4 and Destiny 2 players on PC. Now Scorpio on the other hand… Nah, we don’t know, it’s probably the same story there, too.
While this may come as a bit of a disappointment to those who care about such things, we’re obliged to advise that you don’t let your knickers get knotted; the original Destiny was “just” 30fps, too, but that didn’t stop it becoming a powerhouse with players all over the world. We reckon Destiny 2 will do the job just fine.
