E3 2018: Call of Cthulhu Brings Tabletop Gaming to the Small Screen

Just like the characters in an H.P. Lovecraft story learn, the nightmares in cosmic horror never really go away forever. Thankfully, cosmic horror in games is the same way. With Call of Cthulhu, Cyanide Studio is taking the tabletop game from Chaosium and bringing it to your PS4.

The game is set in 1924, and you are a private investigator sent to Darkwater Island to look into a strange death for the Hawkins family. I mentioned Cthulu, so that’s your first clue for why things don’t go smoothly. He will tangle with odd locals, cults, and much worse.

As you unravel the mystery, your courage and sanity will be tested. You will be able to talk to the island’s residents, choose different skills, and even go insane if you experience enough mental shock. I am really hoping you can still complete the game if that happens.

Your choices will make an impact in the world. Cyanide Studio is promising multiple endings, and we would guess they are probably more dark than sunshine and unicorns. The developer previously worked on the Blood Bowl and Styx games, so dark may be a good fit for them.

Although we don’t have a release date, it will be out this year. Check out the creepy trailer for Call of Cthulu, and start telling yourself now that it’s all in your head.

Press Release from Focus Home Interactive

Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
