Another small patch for Elite Dangerous hit the PS4 today, and it is a bit of an odd one. The release notes have many fixes, but there is only one PS4 item. The note reads, “Speculative fix for texture resolution problems”.
On one hand, we are not sure what to think of that. If a developer makes a game and recognizes an issue, should they not be able to isolate the problem and correct it? I am sure more than a few of us have experienced “speculative fixes” at a mechanic’s shop with varying results.
On the other hand, we may have to agree with the sentiment in the forums – at least they are being honest about it. We can respect that, and Frontier seems willing to keep putting effort into finding and fixing problems. We just wish they had not fixed the passenger mission exploit so quickly.

With content for patch 2.4 still to be released, we would be happy to see the team move beyond fixes and show us something new. This week should grant that wish, but not immediately. Frontier Expo is starting October 7th in London, and we should see the future of Elite Dangerous, as well as Jurassic World Evolution. It would be great to have a few extra things pop up in the game during that time too.
With Hannah’s excellent article on gamers with low/no internet, maybe they can introduce a singleplayer version of the game? As small as the chance might be, no matter what they have in mind, we will be sure to let you know.
Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
