At GDC today, Randy Pitchford took to the stage to discuss Gearbox’s use of the Unreal Engine 4 as it relates to building their next Borderlands game. He shows images in both black and white and color, talks about how materials make a difference in what is seen, and even shows a fully-rendered production asset.
Although the discussion is mostly technical, it is great to see the next installment of Borderlands will look great. Pitchford made sure to reinforce that they are displaying the tech, not the game. Some of what was shown may not be in a final product. On when we can expect the next Borderlands, Pitchford said, “we’re working on it, we’ll get you soon”.
GDC is in full swing, and Borderlands 3, even the tech demo, is making us a little itchy to jump back into Pandora and shoot everything. Our fingers are crossed for more info at E3.
Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
