We have a confession to make. We love watching a game’s CG movies, even if we will not play the game. The scenes are usually punctuated by a great soundtrack, and we see a professionally edited video that makes our gamer sense tingle. Think of us what you will, but we will no longer be shamed by CG love.
This is especially true for anime games. The upcoming remake .Hack//G.U. Last Recode has dropped the game’s opening cinematic today. It is filled with drama, while a psuedo-operatic number is playing in the background. The visuals show their age a bit, but it is still worth a watch.
.Hack//G.U. Last Recode is remake of the first three .Hack//G.U. games Rebirth, Reminisce, and Redemption. They have been revamped to 1080p glory at 60fps in a 16:9 widescreen format. These are games that started life on the PS2, so there has been some major tinkering under the hood, including balance tweaks and a cheat mode for people who just want to see the story.
Fans of the series will also be able to play a fourth episode that occurs after the events in Redemption. After quitting the game, Haseo must login to save his friend Ovan, before World R:2 shuts down permanently. New dungeons, characters, and a new form for Haseo will be part of the episode.
.Hack//G.U. Last Recode will be available on November 3rd.
Bandai Namco Press Release
Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
