Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is one of this generation’s most lauded games. It has been a critical success and the developer behind the game, Ninja Theory, has since gone on to become part of Microsoft’s expanding library of studios.
However, the developer is still working on Hellblade, but it’s not just simple updates – though the PS4 version of the game did get a HDR update yesterday.
Ninja Theory has announced Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice VR Edition for PC headsets. Yes, just PC headsets. The game will not release on PSVR, much to the dismay of many. Some online have assumed it’s due to Ninja Theory now being a Microsoft Studio, but that’s not the case.
The developer took to Twitter to explain that the VR edition of Hellblade is targeting top-of-the-line PC hardware – something PS4 just can’t compete with. Considering the game struggles to hold a steady frame rate on PS4 and PS4 Pro, it’s not surprising that the game won’t be releasing on PSVR – the sacrifices needed to make the game playable on PSVR would essentially strip the game of its visual identity.
So, if you want to play Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice VR Edition, you’re going to have to pony up a lot of cash for a top end PC and PCVR headset. But at least the VR Edition is a free update if you already own the game on PC…
