It seems like multiple game developers are looking to explore mental illness through games. The team behind Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice are putting the player inside “a warrior with psychotic mental illness”, and they have gone to some professionals to ensure it is realistic.
In the latest trailer taken from a larger documentary, the team at Ninja Theory describes how they met with Prof. Paul Fletcher at the University of Cambridge and other health experts to better understand what a character struggling with these problems would really experience and how they would react to the world.
This trailer only makes us more curious about Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Thankfully, we will only have to wait until August 8th, before we have the chance to pick up one of the more unique releases for this year.
Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
