After twelve years, the original Yakuza game will be receiving a substantial face-lift and coming to party on the PS4. Yakuza Kiwami will take us back to Kazuma Kiryu’s original story (not counting the recently released Yakuza 0). After spending ten years in prison for a crime he did not commit, he is released. His yakuza family has disowned him, his lady is missing, and the yakuza are missing 10 billion yen, which makes them more than a little angry.
The game is packed with extras and updates. There are more than 30 minutes of new cutscenes to give more depth to the story. There are new quests and activities, updated combat, and the dialogue has been re-recorded by the original actors. The game assets have been updated, and the game will run at 1080p/60fps.
This is actually not the first time the game has been updated, but it is the first time for an updated version outside Japan. In 2012, an updated HD remaster of the first two games was released in Japan for the PS3. In 2014, an HD version of the first and second games were ported to the Wii U in Japan only.
Yakuza Kiwami will be a physical and digital release. It will be priced at $29.99/£29.99/€34.99, and it will be punching Majima and enjoying the night life in hostess clubs on August 29th.
