That may all be changing according to Sony chief Shawn Layden. During this year’s PSX, Layden sat down for a chat with Gregg Miller and was asked about the oft-requested feature. To our surprise, Layden actually opened up and said “I hope we’ll see events occur that you won’t have to ask me that question next PlayStation Experience.”

Naturally, we take that to mean that PSN name changes will come before next Christmas. Either that or Shawn Layden will a) bury this Miller bloke in cement, or b) quit Sony and get a job at Tesco’s. We’re kind of hoping to see all three…

There are no further details at the time of writing, though we’d like to know if this is going to be a paid-for kind of deal. We wouldn’t mind so much, as long as we’re all given a one-time change.
