Rumour: Call of Duty Going Back to Basics in World War II Setting

It’s been a fairly long time since Call of Duty put players on the frontlines of World War II. The last installment to give players the power to put Nazi’s into the dirt was Call of Duty 3 back in 2006. Since then we’ve come a long way from the dirty trenches of Normandy, to the high-tech modern-day, all the way to the distant future where wars are fought between planets, not just countries.

It’s a nice surprise, then, that it looks like Sledgehammer’s next Call of Duty game will be taking us back to the gritty realities of war in a World War II setting. Some leaked images showing the game’s promotional posters and even the steelbook edition which all looks pretty legit. It makes sense that Activision would give the go-ahead to send the series back to its roots; fans of the series have been vocal in their displeasure with the future settings and the turn from first-person historical shooter to space-faring RPG. Can’t say we don’t kind of agree on that one…

The name for this new game? Call of Duty: WWII. Yep, they’re pretty much hitting it right on the nose. We suppose that’s one way to get your “WE GOIN’ BACK TO THE GOOD OL’ DAYS!” message across…
