I don’t think anyone will be surprised to hear that Marvel’s Spider-Man did rather well in the sales department. But we are a news site, after all, and stuff like this falls under that umbrella, so… Marvel’s Spider-Man was a commercial success, and Sony have released the numbers to prove it.
According to a recent corporate release by SIE, the infamous swinger managed to sell more than 9 million copies of his namesake title. But that figure only runs from launch to November 25th. And we can only speculate on what it has climbed to in the time since.
But, still, it is a very impressive tally to clock up in just three months, leading to a lot of speculation over when a second instalment will hit our screens and if this will be the biggest selling console exclusive in Sony’s history. It’s a tall ask, especially going against The Last of Us Part 1 and, upcoming, Part 2, but I don’t think many would bet against it.
Sony also took the opportunity to announce just how many PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold, worldwide, which is a collosal 91.6 million units. This was, partly helped, by a strong holiday period last month – 5.6 million consoles were sold throughout 2018’s merry season.
If we combine the two facts we can come to the conclusion that, thus far and roughly, 1 in every ten PlayStation 4 consoles has been gifted a copy of Marvels Spider-Man by its significant other. Now that is love.
