Let’s get the bad news out of the way. Spike Chunsoft has released the names of their upcoming 2018 releases, and there is no new Danganronpa. Yes, it would be too soon for them to deliver a new one, but we have our dreams too. Our unrealistic expectations aside, everything they announced is coming to the PS4.
First up, PixelJunk Monsters 2 is releasing on May 25th in North America and Europe. The first game’s take on the tower defense genre was a lot of fun, and the sequel will be priced at $14.99 (US).
From MAGES. and 5pb., Steins;Gate Elite will be a visual novel in the Steins;Gate universe. According to Gematsu, the version will include full animation for all of the scenes from the original series, instead of the usual static images. There will be “new routes that were not in the anime” for you to explore, and the original animation company, White Fox, is working on the game.
From the creators of Danganronpa, we have a new survival RPG. Based on the trailer, Zanki Zero: Last Beginning tells the story of the destruction in the world in 2018. Use all your gift cards now, we guess. The last eight survivors are associated with the seven deadly sins, plus original sin, and they live for 13 days at a time. After they die, they are revived for another 13 days to do it all over again.
It looks like a dungeon crawler mixed with a visual novel, so color us intrigued on this one.
If visual novels are the spice in your life, 428: Shibuya Scramble may be perfect for you. After a kidnapping, you will take control of the lives of five characters. The story is told over a ten hour time frame, and your decisions can impact the lives of the other characters. This creates 90 possible endings told with “text, live-action stills, and video sequences”.
It received a 40/40 from Famitsu magazine, so it must be something special.
If you want to a more physical game, Fire Pro Wrestling World will let you design a wrestler, give them a personality, and win the championship over multiple styles. You can even choose the moves that take you to victory.
The game will let you share your creation with other players and hold online matches to see who has the most skills in the ring.
If you want to see some of the games in action, Spike Chunsoft is holding a Twitch stream at 5:00 P.M. PDT (8:00 P.M. EST or 12:00 A.M. GMT) today. You can watch it here.
Along with the chance to win some prizes, there will be appearances by Dylan Cuthbert, the president of Q-Games, Yoshinori Terasawa, the producer of Danganronpa games, and David Kracker, a localization director for Spike Chunsoft. It should be a good opportunity to get an inside look at what is coming this year.

Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
