Spike Chunsoft is at Anime Expo this week, and they have dropped trailers, release dates, and new games for everyone. Starting with new games, AI: The Somnium Files is the newest game from director Kotaro Uchikoshi. He is the director of the Zero Escape series, so that should make you a little excited already. (PS Plus members can sample one of his games this month.)
Previously known as Project: PSYNCH, AI: The Somnium Files focuses on detective, Kaname Date, in a futuristic Tokyo. Yusuke Kozaki is the lead character designer. He previously worked on Fire Emblem Awakening and No More Heroes. We don’t have a release date for this one, but that trailer only whets the appetite for more.
A remake of the 1998 Saturn version of Yu-No was also announced. MAGES/.5pb will add new art and voice acting for the remake. According to Wikipedia, “The game’s protagonist travels between various parallel worlds in order to solve the mystery of his parents’ disappearance.” It was released on the PS4 in Japan on March 16th, 2017, but we should have more information on Yu-No soon.
Ready your Reading Steiner, because Steins;Gate Elite is finally coming in 2019. This is a remake of the Steins;Gate game with animation from the anime and new animation for a few endings. You will still need to make choices in the game that will impact your divergence from the world line and direct you to a different ending.
The visual novel Steins;Gate: Linear Bounded Phenogram will be included in the package. It puts characters from Steins;Gate in different realities, and you will make choices with your phone. Kotaro Uchikoshi actually wrote some of the scenarios.
Finally, 428: Shibuya Scramble is hitting the PS4 on September 4th. A demo will be released, so you can get a taste of the game. It gives you a group of characters, and you will control the entire story with your decisions. It also eschews the regular animated models for live-action. Check out the trailer to really appreciate how crazy this game is going to be. In addition, it received a perfect score from Famitsu, so this is one to watch.
This is all great, but there is one title we didn’t see. No information was given for Zanki Zero, the game from the creators of Danganronpa. The official site shows it is coming soon, and there is a conference scheduled at Anime Expo for tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. PDT. You can watch the whole thing on Spike Chunsoft’s Twitch channel here. Will we see a release date for that as well? Fingers crossed, my lovelies.
Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
