There’s an unannounced game coming this year from 2K, though what exactly this game is has yet to be revealed. It has been rumoured for a long time that Borderlands 3 is heading to PS4 and Xbox One this year, though there’s still nothing official from the developer, Gearbox, or the publisher, 2K Games.
There’s also word on there being another BioShock game in development within 2K studios though, again, nothing has been confirmed. Speaking on today’s Take Two earnings call, the company’s CEO stated that 2K’s unannounced game is on track to be released in FY2020, or in normal speak, before March 2020.
Borderlands 3 is currently the most likely game, considering that Gearbox hasn’t been all that busy with new game releases this generation. The last game, Borderlands 2 VR, was released late last year to decent reviews.
Update: Answering an investor’s question later on during the call, Strauss Zelnick may have inadvertently given us an answer. Zelnick was asked about the release timeframe for Borderlands 3 and the unannounced 2K game. Zelnick answered by saying that Gearbox is doing exceptional work and is a great studio to work with, and that the unannounced title was still on track and that the company has very high expectations for the game. It’s more about what he didn’t say in this instance; Zelnick either skipped over naming Borderlands 3 deliberately, or Borderlands 3 and the unannounced game are one and the same.
