Anything featuring planes is a winner in my eyes. But Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has had a more official approval laid upon it by being crowned the series’ best selling game. That is hardly a surprise given the advancements that it featured compared to previous instalments, and the graphical improvements on offer that gave us such rich immersion. But a few of the older titles have quite the cult following, so it is still quite the feat to behold.
Perhaps the achievement was helped by the PSVR support added post launch, which opened up the game to a wider audience base than its niche-ness would initially suggest. Or maybe we’re becoming a world of ‘Avgeeks’ because there is no cooler hobby. Either way, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has managed to sell 2.5 million copies, something Project Aces were proud to share.
In addition to the above news, the team also shared the fact that it has outsold the previous best-seller (Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies) without so much as a dogfight. Something that only bodes well for what’s to come. In the meantime, I’ll be hoping Hori or Nacon come up with some sort of cockpit accessory that could take the place of more generic gaming chairs.
In the meantime, we can continue to enjoy Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown thanks to a new free update due tomorrow (January 19th). The patch has been prepared to celebrate its second anniversary and will add a whole new range of skins to the in-game aircraft. The perfect excuse to take-off again, no doubt. But if you still need convincing, check out the video above – and keep an eye out for the glowing livery!
