The last Call of Duty game to be developed by Infinity Ward was notable for its futuristic take on the franchise. Ever since then it’s been all guns to the future, with Sledgehammer’s Advanced Warfare and Treyarch’s Black Ops III delving even further into the future.
According to a well-known industry insider, Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty – which has yet to be announced, by the way – will be taking place even further in the future and will take players away from the military setting to a full-on sci-fi shooter.
We’re not too sure we like what we’re hearing: the last few Call of Duty games have been decent enough, but with players pining to be taken back to the past and grounded in reality (World War II) we can’t help but feel that Call of Duty is kind of losing its way by straying hundreds of years away from its roots. Still, this could turn out to be a load of hot air as the announcement hasn’t been made yet, though we’re expecting Activision to do its usual big reveal in the next couple of months before a blow out of information at E3 2016.
