Update: There’s a new update, version 1.51, that fixes the borked 4K. Read more here.
Gosh dang it, Ubisoft, you’ve only gone and buggered it up with the latest update for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Yes, you’re reading that correctly: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has a new update, 1.50, and it brings PS4 Pro support.
The new update went live today with the patch notes stating it adds 4K support for PS4 Pro users. Good stuff, right? Nuh-uh. According to a NeoGaf user, the update doesn’t make the entire game run at 4K, just the HUD. So the mini-map is 4K. Great.
That’s not even the worst of it: the game actually ends up looking worse thanks to the 1.50 update, something we didn’t think was actually allowed to happen with games that receive PS4 Pro updates.
It’s a good move by Ubisoft to update an older game, though perhaps it could have been executed a little bit better. Maybe there will be a follow-up patch soon, though we’re not holding our breath for it. That being said, it’d be great if more publishers went back to their earlier releases to give them a cheeky little update. Sadly, we doubt it’s going to become common practice.
