The arena shooter At Sundown: Shots in the Dark will be coming to the PS4 on January 22nd. I know. You already read that in the title. Well, it’s coming with 17 weapons, 18 maps, 9 modes, and power-ups for you to enjoy offline, online, or in local co-op. If nothing else, they are making it easy for you to find a way to play it.
The game is played in a top down perspective, and the arena starts by being dimly lit. As long as you stay out of the light or avoid creating it through gunfire, your fellow players can’t see you to target you. However, every time a shot is fired or someone is caught in different light sources in the environment, their (or your) location is exposed. It looks like different weapons unleash different amounts of light, so you have to wait for the right moment to strike and stealthily slink back into the darkness.
The game will allow up to four players to engage in some fast and frenetic action. You could enjoy it with strangers, but, assuming it’s decent, it looks like a potentially great candidate for the local co-op game when the family is in for a holiday. (I’m always looking for the next hit.) Will it meet that high threshold? Watch the trailer, and we’ll know when it sneaks out of the darkness on January 22nd.

Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
