Are you ready for some battle royale Call of Duty style? It’s OK to not be sure how to answer that question, especially if you haven’t played it. Starting January 17th, you can play the (long title alert) Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Battle Royale for free. Until January 24th, you can blast strangers and friends alike in a giant free-for-all.
The idea is to survive. At the beginning of the match, you will jump out of a helicopter with nothing but the wingsuit on your back. You will land in a nice area of the map and begin looting for weapons and items to help keep you alive until the end of the match. The safe area of the map will keep shrinking and pushing you into the way and crosshairs of other players. You can check out the finer points and some strategy tips here.
If this isn’t your first battle royale, my guess is that you will pick up the basics pretty quickly starting Thursday. If you like it, I also wouldn’t be surprised if it is being offered at a discounted price during the free trial. Either way, free game is free, so be sure to give it a try if that’s your jam.
Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
