Activision has left it rather late in the day to be showing off its annual entry in the long-running Call of Duty franchise – we normally get the teases and reveals way earlier in the year than this. But this is 2020, and the rules have been thrown out of the window.
It all started recently with little hints and clues in the form of an ARG, leading wannabe detective players to websites and even hidden rooms in the free-to-play Warzone.
Well, the puzzle is no more as Activision has officially revealed that this year’s game will be Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, though there’s still an air of uncertainty around the game. The trailer itself doesn’t show any gameplay or cinematic clips. What it does show is a teaser trailer put together using real news clips from the Cold War era, with KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov detailing how Russia plans on crumbling America over the course of several decades. Basically boasting about Russia’s strong long game.
After the last Black Ops game being a multiplayer-only offering, here’s hoping that we’ll see a robust campaign, and maybe even a few familiar faces from earlier Black Ops games. We’ll know more on August 26th – the date of the game’s worldwide reveal.
