You may have started making room for Call of Duty Modern Warfare on your console’s hard drive. But I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve underestimated its size. There’s a picture doing the rounds on Reddit, showing the back of the case. And the little boxes at the bottom ask for 150GB of space. That’s bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2!
And there’s only one disc – supposedly – which means the rest must be downloaded (either now or at a later date). Your bandwidth will be needing a medi-vac by the end of it.
It’s not the first time we’ve reported that copies of the game can be found in the wild despite it not having released officially. But it is the first time we’ve seen the blurb for ourselves. And there’s no questioning what is there in print. Sealed beneath the retail packaging. Accompanied by snapshots of the action. However, the question must be asked – what has gone into this project to make it so hungry for gigabytes?
Fine, it may be explained in part by the PS4 Pro enhancements. After all, those 4k textures come at a cost. But 150 gigabytes for what is normally a short-to-average length campaign? Something just doesn’t add up. It’s nearly as big as the PC file!
Then there’s the likelihood that Activision are simply making us aware of how much the whole thing will need in months/years to come when all of its additional content has been made available. But I still can’t make the numbers work, unless Infinity Ward have done something remarkable and given us two games worth of content in one. And a handful of expansions on top. Yeah, I doubt it either.
It’s a nice thought, though.
The only other explanation is that Call of Duty Modern Warfare is a highly polished game, full of detailed assets, an expansive world and a hearty narrative. As a result, the base requirement in memory is above average as it is. And only inflated further by additional textures, which have been purposely enhanced for our ultra high definition enjoyment.
We’ll know for certain in two days time, but I’m hoping for the latter.
Have you the space in your life for Call of Duty Modern Warfare? Or is your console already fully loaded?
