Castlevania Series Coming to Netflix Later This Year

We do not normally write stories on TV shows or movies, but, when it collides with gaming, we want to share it with you.
We do not have much information on this, but there was a single line in Netflix’s press release on upcoming shows that seems to be causing our whip-loving hearts to flutter a little. That line is as follows:
Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 Coming to Netflix in 2017
Based on information on Netflix’s site, it will be an animated series written by Warren Ellis. Ellis has written the popular Transmetropolitan series and has worked as a writer for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Vertigo. The series is rumored to be based on Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, but Netflix shows the plot will be,
“Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself.”
According to a tweet from the series producer about a year ago, the show will be dark, violent, and satirical. To be fair, most media about vampires that do not glitter in the sun have to be dark for their own health reasons, so that is a given. In the same vein (oh, puns!), we would think violence and vampires are a chocolate and peanut butter combination. The satirical description makes us curious, but also a little confused.
We look forward to seeing more of our games become movies and television shows. Eventually, they will get it right.
Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
