As Sony remains silent on their next hardware offering, Microsoft have provided further details on the Xbox Series X. And to tie in with this latest update, CD Projekt RED has outlined their own plans for the console. Specifically, Cyberpunk 2077 will receive an update after the console’s launch to allow the game to make full use of that new breed of technology. And the patch will also be free.
But the question is, will Sony’s console get the same treatment?
By the sounds of it, the same update will indeed be coming to the PlayStation 5. That’s because the studio do not believe in charging the gamer twice for the same game. But nothing has been said for definite. And neither will it be until Sony go public with the darn thing.

Gamers should never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades. Owners of #Cyberpunk2077 for Xbox One will receive the Xbox Series X upgrade for free when available.
However, what this doesn’t tell us is whether the game will be getting a cross-generation release or not. After all, the Xbox X will be backwards compatible. So, this could simply mean you buy the Xbox One Cyberpunk 2077 disc, insert it into the next new console, download the patch, and hey presto, you’re playing. But it does seem too big a game, and opportunity, for it not to enjoy its own re-release – so to speak. I’m guessing it would prove a very popular bundle package on shelves around the world!
But if it isn’t getting a next-generation release, can we finally say for certain that the PlayStation 5 is backwards compatible? Because that is a feature that is yo-yoing more than my waistline. Unfortunately, we know nothing. Except that Sony is skipping E3, again (the curse of the boss, me thinks!), and are staying very, very quiet on the matter…
Let’s hope they get loose lipped soon!
