Its launch day is drawing nearer. And as a result, the preload window for Cyberpunk 2077 is opening up. But this is both a blessing and a curse as it has revealed the game’s true size. Now, it’s certainly a behemoth – weighing in at 102GB. So, if I was you, I’d start downloading it now because it could take some time…
However, this was to be expected. Especially after the news earlier in the week that there was a 40GB+ update to install, as well. But it still comes as quite a shock to this writer who installed the Phoenix Wright Trilogy this morning – all 2GB of it!
Obviously the two are incomparable. And Cyberpunk 2077 is trying to deliver a completely different experience. But it does beg the question of how big these open world games could get as native PlayStation 5 releases. For as the worlds grow in size, so do their file sizes. Yet Sony still considers a TB hard drive as sufficient for storage, which is a lot less in reality too – doesn’t make sense, does it? Just give it a few years and that hard drive will probably struggle to hold more than two games!
Anyway, let’s get back to Cyberpunk 2077. The file size was shared with us by a user on Reddit. And, as far as we know, that update should be included in the 102GB figure. So, if you get this preload installed before launch day, you should be all good to go. That’s if the update squashes its many bugs and your internet holds up…
