Ever since its announcement, Cyberpunk 2077 has created a buzz. So, it should come as no surprise to hear that it gained quite a few pre-orders during its road to release. But I think it’s still worth me stating that fact because 8 million – yes, you read that right, 8 million – is a big achievement. Even if it is turning into a bit of a disappointment for some…
The number was made public by the team themselves, who were keen to thank fans for their trust and investment. And they also took the opportunity to inform everyone that they are working hard behind the scenes to fix all of its issues. Given the reviews, memes and social media comments doing the rounds today, that could take some time. But it’s good to know they recognise – publicly – its shortcomings and are willing to put things right.
You can see the announcement for yourself in the Tweet below. But whilst I have your attention, I’ll take this moment to also point out that this means it has taken at least $500 million in revenue (according to industry analyst, Daniel Ahmad) – which means it could have matched Grand Theft Auto V already on launch day figures. So, whatever the reviewers say from this moment on, Cyberpunk 2077 has already made CD Projekt RED very proud indeed.
