The cooperative puzzle game where robots are guided through mazes with deadly traps will be releasing onto the PlayStation 4 alongside the Xbox One and PC in Q1 2017. The PS4 version will receive exclusive levels, skins, and certain controller features that the other two platforms won’t. Death Squared is all about teams of two or four guiding robots on color-coded waypoints. The goal is for each square to end up on their respective finishing point. However, each level will have certain hazards and rules that can only be learned through trial and error. Developer SMG Studios want us to know that the experience is best played in multiplayer but there will be a story mode for solo players. There will also be “party chaos” challenges for groups of four.
“The reception to Death Squared has been amazing from groups of all sizes and skill levels,” said Patrick Cook, lead designer, SMG Studio. “It’s been a lot of fun to watch the many different groups of players approach our puzzles. Every team has its own dynamic. Strangers at conventions start high-fiving, couples have an equal share in a level’s success. I think everyone can get behind comradery in the face of adversity.”
If you plan on attending RTX in Sydney or PAX South, you’ll be able to go hands-on with the title where both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One content will be playable. Check out the trailer above and let us know what you think of Death Squared.
