It’s that time of year again when the finest minds in gaming are rewarded for all their efforts. And lo and behold, Hideo Kojima’s brainchild Death Stranding is up for eleven separate awards. Now, it’s no surprise to hear that the enigmatic game is a firm favourite to scoop up several of the night’s top prizes. But is their a rival who can steal the limelight away from Sam Bridges? I very much doubt it, unless the judging panel are of the minority who didn’t really “get it”.
However, it may come as a surprise to hear that Death Stranding will not be competing for the title of Best Game. An award that will instead be contested by the likes of Outer Wilds, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Control.
Now, Control is a funny one because it’s the only other game to receive that many nominations. Yet, it is a game that you rarely see getting the credit it deserves. And the Outer Wilds is also a dark horse, getting around a handful of shots for itself. But does your favourite game feature in any of the categories? Or are you a bad judgement of character (design)?
Well, the full list is available to peruse here. But in addition to those shortlisted candidates, don’t forget that there is one award, at least, that has already been decided. Hideo Kojima is, after all, receiving the prestigious BAFTA Fellowship Award for his contribution to the gaming industry. And will be giving an acceptance speech on the night to celebrate that fact. So, stay tuned for what is set to be a big night for gaming.
