Evolution Studios, or at least it was once called that, hasn’t had an easy ride this generation. The studio’s big PS4 exclusive racer DriveClub got off to a very shaky start on release before the studio was eventually shuttered by Sony.
It seemed there was hope, though, as the bulk of the team was taken on by Codemasters and it soon started work on its next big release, OnRush.
Unfortunately, OnRush hasn’t been the runaway success that Codemasters expected and now the team behind the game is in jeopardy.
According to Eurogamer, the studio is being hit with multiple layoffs from the top staff to the bottom. Even the studio’s public face, Paul “Rushy” Rustchynsky, has reportedly been “let go” by Codemasters’ chiefs, while others have also been fired or are being made to re-apply for their jobs. It doesn’t sound great, does it?
Unfortunately this is an all too common story in game development, and naturally myself and the rest of the Pure PlayStation team hope that all who have been affected can find gainful employment sooner rather than later.
No, we’re not hiring. Sorry Rushy.
Chris has been writing about gaming news for far too long, and now he’s doing it even more. A true PlayStation know-it-all, Chris has owned just about every Sony console that ever existed. Trophies are like crack to this fella. (Bronze trophies, that is – he only has one Platinum.)
