Ubisoft is working on an Avatar game and today the publisher reminded everyone that the franchise still exists, even if James Cameron is taking his sweet time with the movies.
Ubisoft ended its E3 2021 Ubisoft Forward show with a bang as the publisher revealed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, a new first-person action-adventure that’s releasing for next-gen consoles, streaming services, and PC in 2022.
The game is being developed by Massive Entertainment – the studio behind The Division and the recently announced Ubisoft Star Wars game – using the latest version of the impressive Snowdrop engine. Massive is working on the game in collaboration with James Cameron’s production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, as well as Disney.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is described as a standalone extension of the Avatar universe, meaning it doesn’t hold any ties to the original movie or the upcoming sequels. Great if you’ve never watched the movies, not so great if you were hoping to see Sam Worthington in another video game. He has his fans, apparently…
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora does not have a release date as of yet, just a 2022 release window. The good news, for next-gen owners at least, is that the game is being developed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Google and Amazon’s streaming services, so it should be a sweet bit of next-gen goodness. It certainly looks the part, but don’t take my word for it – check out the impressive trailer below and then feel free to download all of the provided screenshots down at the bottom.
