EA Has Delisted A Bunch of Need for Speed Games

If you’ve got a hankering for some older Need for Speed games, you’ll need to hunt down their discs from today.

EA has pulled the plug on a few older Need for Speed games citing the dwindling player numbers as the reason.

As of May 31st, 2021, Need for Speed Carbon, Need for Speed Undercover, Need for Speed Shift, Need for Speed Shift 2: Unleashed and Need for Speed The Run are no longer available from digital storefronts. If you want to play them, you’ll need to go and find their disc versions. I’ve got Undercover in a jam-stained case if anybody wants it…

The online capabilities for the selected games will stay in operation until August 31st, 2021 before being shut down for good. Then, from September 1st, you’ll only be able to play the games using their offline modes.

While some may cry foul, EA’s stance is understandable. These are all older games and they’re not likely to be making much money – if any at all. The official announcement also notes that the focus for the development teams is shifting to the future of the franchise – something we should all look forward to.
