I seem to hear David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” everywhere right now, and it’s even in the new gameplay trailer for Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. (It’s a great song, so I don’t mind.) The new expansion is bringing some of the most exciting and massive changes to the franchise since Horizons. It will allow commanders to embark on distant planets on foot with new missions. Those planets all have a much nicer coat of paint as well as new geographical details for you to explore.
It’s coming to the PS4 early next year, and it looks like a giant visual improvement with features that fans have been requesting for a long time. It’s also just another piece of a massive game that lets you fly your own starship, take on missions as a bounty hunter, trader, or miner, and explore a realistic model of our own galaxy.
Based on my time with Elite Dangerous, Odyssey is just another step forward for the continually improving game, and I can’t wait to step on some of those planets for myself.
Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
