Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will be a massive expansion that allows players to explore many of the planets in the game. Until now, it’s been largely a galaxy-wide drive by in the massive universe. You can land some places, but you could not explore on foot at all. Odyssey will open up new opportunities, new missions, and a chance to explore even more.
This type of expansion in an established game could not have been easy. It required new technology and a lot of work by the developer. David Braben, Founder and CEO of Frontier, had this to say about the project:
“Odyssey is our most ambitious Elite Dangerous expansion to date. Extending coverage to the super-fine scale that is needed for on-foot gameplay while maintaining the vast raw distances measured in light-years, is a huge achievement by the team, and greatly extends the already rich Elite Dangerous experience. We hope you will join us to continue this journey of discovery and adventure when Elite Dangerous: Odyssey launches in early 2021.”
This is something players of Elite Dangerous have been requesting for a long time, and, according to the trailer, it’s also coming to the PS4 when it blasts into space early 2021. The team will have plenty to do, but, with the extra horsepower from the PS5 on the horizon, can we talk about bringing it to the PSVR?
