What couldn’t be a happier day for this author (ok that’s a lie, the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer dropped after all) in the fact that ESL’s competitive gaming systems are coming to the PS4. For those unaware, ESL is a pretty large eSports company that has leagues, ladders, and competitions for an assortment of titles. They are bringing their technology over to the PlayStation 4’s Tournaments feature. Millions of PS4 users will now be able to find, participate, and check-in to competitions organized by ESL at the tips of their fingers. We assume it will be on the XMB dashboard.
The first major tournament to take advantage of this news will be NBA 2K17. Shortly after Mortal Kombat X and Project Cars 1 will be joining the lineup. Lastly, don’t worry about a language barrier as this new implementation will support over fifteen different languages.
“We’re incredibly excited to be able to offer this seamlessly integrated solution for the most passionate esports fans. ESL’s mission is to bring competitive gaming to fans around the world, and when doing so, to create an environment that allows them to fully focus on their gaming skills.” said Marcel Menge, Managing Director ESL Technology. “In the partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment, we’re going to host hundreds of weekly tournaments for players from any corner of the world. Anyone who wants to try their hand at competitive gaming, can now easily do so across a wide variety of titles.”
Let’s just hope that some PlayStation exclusive titles will get some love on the new ESL/PS4 Tournaments feature. Here’s looking at you Uncharted 4 and RIGS: Mechanized Combat League.
