For Honor finished up its closed beta, and we were more than a little disappointed we missed a chance to try out the cross-cultural carnage. Today’s news helped to turn that frown upside down as an open beta was announced.
Running from February 9th – 12th, gamers will be able to choose between three variants of the Vikings, Samurai, and Knights to prove which warriors are the best. In addition to the Dominion (4vs4), Brawl (2vs2), and the argument solving Duel (1vs1) modes, a new Elimination mode will be available. This 4vs4 mode will be a best of five matches with no respawns.
As a promotion to continue the War of the Factions in the open beta, Ubisoft will also be pulling out the celebrity endorsements in a live event with Jason Mamoa (the future Aquaman), Lauren Cohan (Maggie from the Walking Dead), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy from Game of Thones), and Demetrious Johnson, a true UFC fighter who could probably take them all out without breaking a sweat.
For Honor has an interesting premise, but we are probably not alone in wanting a chance to give it a try. For every amazing multiplayer game like Overwatch, there are more missteps like Evolve. We can only hope developers have learned from these games, and we will have a chance to find out next Thursday.

Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
