Square Enix hosted a digital showcase event to show off what it has in the pipeline, and one game announced was Forspoken.
Square Enix has announced that PROJECT ATHIA, originally revealed back in 2020, is now called Forspoken and it’s coming to PS5 and PC in 2022.
The announcement also reveals that the game’s hero, Frey, will be performed by Ella Balinska, who you’ve likely seen in 2019’s Charlie’s Angels. Or likely haven’t seen, because it was utter shite.
What is Forspoken game about?
Forspoken is an action RPG where players take control of Frey Holland, a young woman who leans into the world of magic to survive the wondrous and dangerous world of Athia. The trailer shows Frey scrambling behind cover, exclaiming a naughty word as a dragon roams in the distance. Then, later in the trailer, we get to see Frey battling beasts and traversing the detailed world, all of which was created with PS5 in mind.

“As the first video game I’ve worked on and growing up a huge fan of video games myself, it’s remarkable to see the incredible world and story of Forspoken come together, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy,” said Balinska. “Frey as a character is real, she’s raw, she’s a girl who lost her way—both figuratively and literally—and is a character I immediately connected with, as I feel many people around the world will too when they set off on this adventure.”
What is the Forspoken PS5 release date?
Forspoken is set to release in 2022 on PS5 and PC, though there isn’t a release date set in stone just yet, or a release window. There’s also the chance that it could be delayed, but let’s not think about that. Happy thoughts.
