august 2021 new games

Guide: All PSVR, PS5, PS4 Games Releasing in August 2021

The calm before the storm.

August 2021 games are many but there’s definitely a lean towards indie games, rather than the big triple-A blockbusters that are yet to come. And come they will, but before we’re drowning in the likes of Far Cry 6, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, and Dying Light 2, we’ve got a whole bunch of great games releasing in August 2021.

The PlayStation Plus games for August 2021 include the brand new Hunter’s Arena: Legends, which will release officially on August 3rd. You can bag that one as a freebie if you’re a PlayStation Plus member.

The Falconeer: Warrior Edition is a big get for PlayStation players after releasing back in November 2020 as an Xbox Series X|S launch title. The game will get a native PS5 version with DualSense support, as well as a PS4 release. I recently spoke with its solo developer, Tomas Sala, and… he reckons Ubisoft should make another Splinter Cell, but more like Hitman. Interesting… He’s also got some pretty wild ideas for the world of The Falconeer. You can read/watch our The Falconeer: Warrior Edition review here.

Hades is the mid-month hotness and it’s being hyped as an early Game of the Year contender. Will it do that well, really? We’ll have to wait and see when it releases on August 13th.

Racing fans are being given a brand new bike racing game in the form of RiMS Racing. It’s actually pretty decent and really in-depth. I had a go this summer and I really liked it. Roll on RiMS, I say.

With Horizon Forbidden West seemingly out of contention for a 2021 release date, Sony is hedging its bets elsewhere this holiday season, and it all begins with the solid foundation that is Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. That being said, I wasn’t too happy that Sony is shafting PS5 owners with another paid upgrade – something our friends on the Xbox side of the gaming world don’t have to contend with.

PlayStation VR fans are in for a real treat toward the backend of the month with two big hitters coming to Sony’s VR headset.

Fracked will take players on a balls-to-the-wall action adventure with some of the best PSVR controls I’ve ever had the pleasure of using, at least when we’re talking about the PS Move wands. Fracked will be blasting onto PSVR on August 20th.

If a slower pace is more your cup of tea, or shaken but not stirred vodka martini, then I Expect You To Die 2 will sort you out with its devilishly puzzling gameplay set in a world of comical espionage. Wil Wheaton is in, too, and the game even has a James Bond-style intro.

But what about co-op games? Well, KeyWe is just the thing for you. It’s a fantastic little co-op game where you and a friend take on the role of two Kiwi birds who have been given the keys to a post office. It’s your job to run the place… without hands. It’s wacky fun and I really enjoyed the preview I played over the summer. Definitely keep an eye out for this one.
