Yes, you can play as fan-favourite John Marston in Red Dead Redemption 2. Come on, as if you didn’t already guess that much. Well you can and I’m going to tell you how, but fair warning: it’s not as simple as tapping a few buttons. I won’t post any story spoilers, so you can read ahead knowing that none of the events that lead to John Marston being playable will be detailed below.
In order to play as the lovable rogue in Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll need to play through the story for quite some time. Quite. Some. Time.
Red Dead Redemption 2’s story is split across six main chapters and two epilogue chapters. John is playable once you’ve completed the initial six chapters with Arthur Morgan, and from there you can play as the original hero. You’ll be able to complete story missions as John, as well as any side content that you skipped over when Arthur was the man in the middle of the screen. It’s essentially like how Jack became the playable character in Red Dead Redemption; the open world stays in tact and you’re able to complete the remaining side quests and challenges scattered around the game’s world.
And that’s all there is to it. Play through the game’s story and you’ll get to play as John. Simple.
