It’s a double whammy for Atelier Ryza 2 fans today. First, we have a music video of the game’s theme, “Somewhen, Somewhere” by Clammbon. It’s sweet and will fit perfectly. The gameplay shows a grown-up Tao, Lent, and Ryza. Tao’s transformation is especially striking, since he seems to have gotten a lot taller in the three years since the end of the first game. Lila, Klaudia, and Empel make an appearance as well as some of the new characters like Fi. There are also some new environments and ruins to see.
If you want to see the game in action, Koei Tecmo’s Japanese YouTube channel has you covered. The actual gameplay starts around here and proceeds to show off some of the changes and new environments. You have a look at the capital and move on to another area with monsters. There is a grappling hook traversal mechanic, and you can call Fi to ride around the level by blowing a whistle.
The refined combat system is shown as well. It appears to be even more fast-paced than the previous entry. We also see action orders and a powerful Fatal Drive attack animation. Everything from the combat to the result screen is familiar but tweaked in some way. We won’t know exactly how it will be until we play the game, but it all looks pretty good so far.
Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy is not that far away from release. Your next adventure with Ryza and friends releases on January 26th with a physical release on the PS4 and a digital release on the PS5. If you haven’t played the original, you have plenty of time, and it’s absolutely worth playing. Until then, I’ll keep bringing you the trailers and info.

Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
