Hogwarts Legacy Delayed Until 2022 at the Earliest for PS5, PS4

Bad news is all around us and Warner Bros. Games is doing nothing to stop the flurry by announcing that the Harry Potter RPG revealed late last year, Hogwarts Legacy, has been delayed until 2022. Yuck.

The game was originally announced with a showy trailer last year and it came with a 2021 release attached, though there was no specific date. The delay means the game will release in 2022, as announced by the publisher on its official Hogwarts Legacy Twitter account.

When in 2022?

No idea. There’s literally nothing being said around release windows except that it will release in 2022. The reason? To give the developers more time. The full statement reads:

We would like to thank fans from around the world on the tremendous reaction to the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy from our Portkey Games label. Creating the best experience possible for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us so we are giving the game the time it needs.

Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022.

We must bear in mind that we’re still living in the Age of Rona, so developers are (hopefully…) working from their homes, which means the usual development cycles get thrown off. Plus, there’s the lack of convention coverage for a big-name release; it’s still an open question as to whether we’ll be able to get crammed inside the freezing halls of the L.A Convention centre for E3 2021, or if we’ll be able to get packed like sardines in the Koln Messe for Gamescom 2021. There are many unknown factors and it’d be top-notch to not join the growing Twitter mob displaying its lack of understanding…

Peep this:  Review: Bus Simulator 21 - PS5, PS4

One last thing worth noting before ending this article is that Hogwarts Legacy was announced and confirmed as a cross-gen release. Could this delay throw a spanner in the works for PS4 owners? Maybe. Warner Bros. Games did a similar thing with Mad Max; that game was announced as a cross-gen release, only for the PS3/Xbox 360 version to get canned in favour of developing the game exclusively for next-gen platforms and PC. It’s possible, then, that Hogwarts Legacy may break free from the constraints of last-gen in order to reach its potential on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That’s pure speculation from me, mind you, but a tenner says I’m right.
