Top-down shooters aren’t as popular as they once were but thanks to a semi-revival pushed by the bonkers Hotline Miami, the genre is making a comeback and more developers are stepping up to the play. The latest is Vreski’s Hong Kong Massacre, and it’s coming to PS4 on January 22nd, 2019.
The game is pretty much as its name implies: a massacre in Hong Kong. However, unlike the aforementioned Hotline Miami, Hong Kong Massacre is going for a more realistic feel in how it plays and looks. The game originally started out as a top-down 2D shooter before the developers decided that a 3D interpretation of the world would provide a more engaging experience, not to mention look amazing – and it really does. You can watch the release trailer up above and see for yourself.
One of the big selling points of Hong Kong Massacre is that it features destructive environments and slow-motion shootouts that would make famed movie director John Woo weak at the knees. It’s looking to be a real belter of a game, so be on the lookout early next week.
