You may know from our recent review of Horizon: Zero Dawn that it’s a damn fine video game. Opinion seems pretty much unanimous on the fact and now there’s some figures to back it up. Guerilla Games awe inspiring open-world title has taken number one slot in the UK sales charts in its release week and simultaneously broken the record for the UK’s best launch of a new IP on the PlayStation 4, set last year by No Man’s Sky. The news is particularly impressive as the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch launch title Zelda: Breath of the Wild also featured on the list, coming in at number two despite much hype around last week’s launch.
Other significant entries included fellow Switch launch title 1-2 Switch, with GTA V still making strong sales, this pushes Ubisoft’s recent melee brawler For Honor down into fifth spot. The rest of the top ten looks like this,
- Horizon: Zero Dawn
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Grand Theft Auto V
- 1-2 Switch
- For Honor
- Fifa 17
- Super Bomberman R
- Rocket League
- Sniper Elite 4
- Battlefield 1

No surprises for the rest of the chart but great to see a new IP performing strongly. Hopefully an indicator that there’s more to come from this interesting new universe.

Dom is a gaming orphan; after his surrogate father SEGA was killed in the console wars, he was adopted by Sony and raised by various PlayStation consoles. He swears he’s not biased in any way though, so that’s good enough for us.
