Remember Commandos? It’s an older game series that hasn’t seen the light of day in over a decade. Kalypso Media will be releasing remaster of Commandos 2 next year, but that’s just the start of the Commandos revival.
Today, Kalypso Media has announced that it is forming a brand new game development studio that is being tasked with the production of a next-gen Commandos game. The new development house is based in the Greater Frankfurt area (a lovely area, by the way) and the studio, which is yet to be named, has already named its Studio Director: Jürgen Reußwig.
“The establishment of a new studio is a clear commitment to Kalypso’s growth plans for the coming years as we looked to expand our internal and external development efforts,” says Simon Hellwig, Managing Director and founder of Kalypso Media Group GmbH. “Commandos is a great, globally-recognized brand, and we will do our utmost to meet the expectations of the worldwide gaming community. We can’t wait to get started.”
Studio Director Jürgen Reußwig adds: “At the new site we’ll be looking to develop a truly worthy successor to Commandos, designed for both PC and console platforms for simultaneous worldwide release. On a personal level, I couldn’t be prouder to be working on a true icon of strategy gaming, and I’m looking forward to receiving applications from new and experienced developers alike that share our passion for the series.”
If you’re a game developer looking for work in Germany, you can find the positions being advertised over on Kalypso Media’s job site.
The big news here is that we’re getting a next-gen Commandos game, and that makes me very, very happy. More strategy games in the style of Commandos can only be a good thing. Let’s hope it doesn’t take too long to come to fruition. Potential PS5 launch game? A man can dream…
