Sony overpromised and underdelivered with its latest State of Play broadcast, but it wasn’t a complete waste of time. We got to a new fighting game called Sifu.
Last night’s State of Play may have been a bit… well, c’mon, it was crap, wasn’t it? But the content was mostly good, and some of it was really good. Sifu was one of the really good moments.
So, what is Sifu? It’s the latest game from the developers of the hugely successful Absolver game. Sifu is being developed by Sloclap, a development studio based in Paris, France.
Sifu is an action game taking place in a fictional Chinese city. You play as a young Kung Fu student who, due to unfortunate circumstances, goes on a bit of a mad one in an effort to get some revenge, and maybe even some redemption. Whether it will be red or dead remains to be seen…
The big twist in Sifu is that when you die (and you most assuredly will) you come back a little older. That’s the price of cheating death; you age a little more with every resurrection. You’ll start your journey as a young man and, if you’re not careful, you’ll end it as an old-age pensioner, complete with a long white beard.
Going off of the trailer, it looks like it’s going to be a fast-paced, tactile Kung Fu fighter, and definitely one to watch.
Sifu releases later this year for PS5, PS4, and PC.
