Square Enix is on a roll with the heartbreak today. A little earlier today the publisher announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake has been delayed – though not by much – and now Square Enix has just announced that Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers has been delayed, too.
Originally set to release on May 15th, 2020 for PS4, Xbox One and PC, Marvel’s Avengers will now be releasing on September 4th, 2020. Heres what Crystal Dynamics said on its official blog:
“As fans ourselves, it’s an honor and a privilege to work with these legendary characters and we know what these Super Heroes mean to us and True Believers around the world. When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel’s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come. To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.”
It’s a shame but it could be a blessing in disguise. If like me you refuse to buy new games when a new console is about to release, you may find yourself with Marvel’s Avengers on PS5 rather than PS4.
Given that the game will now be releasing in September, it’s a lot closer to the PS5 release date than it originally was. Perhaps we’ll see an enhanced PS5 version release alongside Sony’s next-gen console? Fingers crossed.

Chris has been writing about gaming news for far too long, and now he’s doing it even more. A true PlayStation know-it-all, Chris has owned just about every Sony console that ever existed. Trophies are like crack to this fella. (Bronze trophies, that is – he only has one Platinum.)
