A new trailer direct from the Tales of Festival in Yokohama shows the two characters who will fight to change two worlds. Alphen is from Dahna. He has lost his memory, and feels no pain. Shionne is from Rena. If she touches anyone, her curse of “thorns” will hurt them. Outside of being 100% perfect for each other, these star-crossed (planet-crossed?) heroes will both need to work together to help Dahna.
With all the E3 hubbub, I didn’t spend as much time looking at Tales of Arise, but that may have been a big mistake. The animation is coming from ufotable. They have worked on games with Bandai Namco in the past, but they are an anime studio who made Fate/stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works, Fate/Zero, and God Eater. They do good work.
The rest of the game, characters, and world look pretty nice too with fiery rocks, snowy forests, green glades with a gentle river, and even some big towns. Even with the reveal, there is still plenty of mystery here. For starters, why is Shionne carrying around a flame sword in her body?
Those questions and more will be answered when Tales of Arise releases sometime in 2020.

Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
