RAD is a 3D action rogue-like set in a post-post-apocalyptic world, where humanity has faced armageddon not once, but twice. As you head out into The Farrow – an ever-changing, radioactive wasteland filled with unknown and unspeakable creatures – you’ll bring life back to the scorched earth, unveiling the path forward.
However, each foray into this wasteland takes its toll, mutating you in strange new ways, forcing players to keep adapting their play style. Snake heads, boomerang arms and egg-laying tails are among just some of the bizarre mutations featured in RAD’s intoxicating reveal trailer, and if the screenshots below are anything to go by they’re going to get a whole lot weirder.
Be too bold in your expeditions and you’ll die… for good. With permadeath, you’ll play a new highly-mutatable, baseball bat-wielding teenager each time that you succumb to the wasteland’s horrors, but ultimately one of them will save the world and become… RAD.
With a vibrant 80s aesthetic, inventive mutation mechanics and tonnes of oddball charm, RAD looks set to join the likes of Costume Quest and Handlander as another quintessential Double Fine gem.
RAD is set for release on August 20th.
